Hey Butterfly Mommies. It’s important we keep the kiddos minds and bodies active year round, even when they’re on break. My kid is extremely into science but she’s not quite ready for a physics tutor, so my mission currently is to find fun science related activities for her to engage in this summer so she’s having fun and learning at the same time. Since school is almost out for the summer, I thought I’d share a few fun and educational science, technology, engineering, math, and art summer camps that I’ve come across taking place in Texas.

We have all been watching in extreme disbelief of what’s been happening in Asia and Europe over the last few weeks and the only thing we can do is stay informed and prepare. Whatever precautions our government is planning to take has to be thought out as thoroughly as possible and implemented quickly to hopefully minimize the mass hysteria, supply shortages, and the number of casualties. As we all prepare to get through this together, below are official updates and resources as they become available:

Butterflies Mommies, I have a serious question…do you look forward to back to school time or do you dread it? For the first five years or so it was exciting (it’s cute seeing little humans excited about going to school) but now that my kid is older I don’t really look forward to it; either way, we have to do what we have to do right? Anyway, I wanted to share a few useful resources to help with getting your kiddos back in school mode:

Butterflies, I recently attended a tequila tasting for date night and it was so much fun. Tequila is a product of Mexico and is one of the world’s most recognized and favored spirits. Ironically, Mexico City is one of my travel goals…I’m looking forward to touring the tequila and Frida Kahlo museums while visiting. Until then, I’ll continue to enjoy my tequila drinks here in Texas.

Visiting Texas: Winter Storms on the Gulf Coast + Resources

Visiting Texas
Butterflies, this has been one stressful week thanks to winter storms Uri and Viola. We’ve been having extreme winter conditions with icy roads, no electricity, burst water pipes and no running water. It’s actually feeling a lot like Hurricane Ike all over again. Ike happened about two years prior to me starting Butterfly LifeStyle back in 2008, but let me tell you it was a miserable time for us. We were without electricity for two weeks after Ike.
More recent than Ike was Hurricane Harvey which was also pretty bad, it rained nonstop for like five days...the whole city was flooded. Anyway, if this is a prelude to what this year’s hurricane season will be like I strongly suggest everyone gets prepared. Also, here are some resources for anyone who may need help recovering from the impact of the winter storms here in Texas:

The last major storm that impacted my area tremendously was Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and since it’s storm season here on the gulf coast, now is the time to prepare. For those of us who are use to the erratic storm season of the South and the possible hurricanes that come with it most of these are no brainners but, for someone new to the coast these tips will definitely come in handy. Things we don’t think about until it’s too late, like making sure anything that can get flooded or blown away is put up or like keeping all electronics fully charged, especially your cellphone. So here we go...
