Visiting Texas: Fun Things To Do in Austin

Austin, Texas is the capital of Texas and home of The Texas Longhorns. If you've been to Austin within the last 10-15 years you've probably come across the "Keep Austin Weird" slogan, meant to encourage buying locally. Like most major cities in the US, food trucks are all the craze in Austin, Tx so be sure to stop by a few while you're in town. Whether you decided to stroll Sixth Street, Rainey Street, or Congress, you'll find something fun to do and somewhere to eat. Below are a few of my favorite places to visit when I'm in the Austin area:

Historic Sites + Entertainment

HOPE Outdoor Gallery | Austin, Texas

A community park providing space for colorful murals with inspirational messaging.

Kalahari | Round Rock, Texas

A resort water park. If you don’t want to stay at the resort, day-passes are available.

Museum of Ice Cream | Austin, Texas

A museum for ice cream lovers.

Museum of The Weird | Austin, Texas

If you’re a fan of oddities or anything strange and unusual, you’ll really enjoy this museum that’s dedicated to just that. This museum features an array of sci-fi and horror film memorabilia. | Location: 412 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701

SXSW Music Festival | Austin, Texas

The South by Southwest Film & Music Festival is one of many annual events in Texas. SXSW is held every March in Austin, TX.

I find it interesting to visit the graves of well known people in the town I’m visiting and research their life’s story, it’s kind of weird I know but I like learning about history through peoples lives. The Texas State Cemetery is the resting place of Stephen F. Austin and many other Texas leaders.

The Capital | Austin, Texas

Austin is super cool on its own, but it’s also the capital of Texas so be sure to check out the capital building.

Shopping

Bee Cave | Bee Cave, Texas

A cool little town just a few minutes outside of Austin. Enjoy dining, shopping and entertainment. The last time I visited Austin I stopped by Bee Cave with my kid, we went to Color Me Mine, did a little shopping, ate lunch and took one of my favorite photos of us together…fun times!

Frida Friday ATX | Austin, Texas

Monthly artisan market held at various locations throughout the city.

Food & Beverage

Franklin Barbecue | Austin, Texas

The best barbecue in Austin. | Location: 900 E 11th St, Austin, TX 78702

Round Rock Donuts | Round Rock, Texas

It’s technically not in Austin however, it’s less than a half hour drive away and it’s totally worth it. Round Rock Donuts is located in Round Rock Texas and is home of the giant donuts.

The Oasis Lake Travis | Austin, Texas

Tex-Mex restaurant overlooking Lake Travis.

Ps. What are some of your favorite places to visit Austin?
