'00’s Music Spotlight: Charlene by Anthony Hamilton

So a lot of my core memories involve music in some way, which makes sense because I’m a music fanatic. Anyway I was listening to a 90’s R&B station the other day and this song came on and reminded me of a moment I shared with my partner and kid when she was just a few weeks old because this song was playing in the background that day and it’s one of my favorite songs. Anthony Hamilton is an American R&B/Soul singer from Charlotte, North Carolina. The song Charlene is one of Anthony Hamilton’s most popular tracks it was officially released in August of 2004 on his second studio album, “Comin' from Where I'm From”; checkout the video and my favorite lyrics from the track below:

‘00s Music Spotlight: You’re Beautiful by James Blunt

Butterflies, this song was out long before I started sharing my world with you guys but it definitely would’ve made my list of best songs of 2004. This song was released on English singer-songwriter James Blunt’s  Back to Bedlam album is definitely one of the best songs of the 2000s. Also, he’s on tour this year so if you’re a fan...go check him out!

My Favorite Lyrics from the Track:

My life is brilliant, My love is pure.
I won't lose no sleep on that, 'Cause I've got a plan.
She could see from my face that I was, Fuckin' high.
You're beautiful, it's true.

‘00s Music Spotlight: The Man Comes Around by Johnny Cash

I was watching a show on Netflix and this song caught my attention. This was my first time hearing it but because I’m a huge music fan and Johnny Cash has a unique vocal style I knew it was his voice I was hearing. The final version of “The Man Comes Around” track was released in 2002 on his “American IV: The Man Comes Around” album.

‘00s Music Spotlight: White Flag by Dido

Butterflies, so I’m in the grocery store today and this song is playing, suddenly I find myself singing along to the lyrics as I picked my produce, totally forgetting where I was for a second or two. Has this happened to any of you?

I’m not only a melophile, I’m also a huge logophile so lyrics are everything to me; there are very few songs with choruses that speak to me but the chorus Dido uses in White Flag happens to be a chorus that does. “I will go down with this ship and I won't put my hands up and surrender. There will be no white flag above my door, I'm in love and always will be.” The deceleration of unconditional love in this chorus is everything! White Flag was released on Dido’s 2003 Life for Rent album and is easily one of the best songs of the 2000s. Ironically she’s releasing a new album and will be on tour this summer.

My favorite lyrics on this track (besides the chorus lol)...
“I’ll let it pass
And hold my tongue
And you will think
That I've moved on”
