If you are a fan of cult classics and thrillers or horror movies are your thing…you’ll definitely enjoy this read. Firstly, if you haven’t checked out the Fear Street three part series on Netflix, please do…it’s frighteningly entertaining. Secondly, it’s Friday the 13th (the first one of this year) and I though it would be cool to share some of the creepiest places (in the states) worth a road trip to; a few are located here in Texas:

Music: Top Aretha Franklin Songs

Butterflies, is it me or does my family have a thing for life story type movie/shows? I shared a similar story about a different music artist a few Thanksgivings ago and here we are again. After dinner (which was delicious af btw), we all kind of chilled out and watched a few movies and because I’m a music fanatic, the one that interest me the most was Respect, the recently released movie about the life of 60s singer and Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. Ms. Franklin was born on March 25th, 1942 (Aries) in Memphis, TN where she grew up with a heavy church influence. The film starred singer/actress Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans and Mary J. Blige.

Check out a few of my favorite Aretha Franklin tracks below:

Movies: 10 Things I Discovered After Watching Eve’s Bayou As an Adult

Butterflies, I was getting my locs redone this past weekend and we watched a couple of 90’s movies to past time. My stylist was done halfway into our last movie, it was so good that I actually found it on Prime and finished watching it when I got in. Eve’s Bayou was released in November 1997 and the cast included Samuel L. Jackson, Lynn Whitfield, Meagan Good, Debbi Morgan and Jurnee Smollett (Lovecraft Country, Birds of Prey:Harley Quinn). The movie takes place in a small town in the creole capital, Louisiana. I saw this movie once growing up but it was a long while ago. Here are ten things I realized after rewatching Eve’s Bayou as an adult:

Movie: I Went to Studio Movie Grill and Got Inspired Financially

Butteries, I wrote a post a few months back expressing my desire to check out Studio Movie Grill...yea that didn't happen until yesterday (lol I've been busy). Anyway, it was a really cool experience! The best part about SMG is being able to pick your own seats...I freaking love that! Not having to go on a scavenger hut for seats in a pitch black theater is an amazing feeling. The seats are very comfy and the food and drinks at SMG are great and well worth the price. The only thing I wish SMG did differently is open a few more locations and add a few more movie choices. On a different note I really enjoyed the movie (The Gambler) and not just because Mark Wahlberg is one of my favorite actors but because it had a really positive real life message. Without giving away the movie I must say the most intriguing part of the Gambler to me is when Frank played by John Goodman shared some wisdom with Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) about life, finances and being self efficient. If you know me, I mean truly know me you know I'm hardly ever the one to depend on anyone so you can understand why that part of the movie really stuck out to me. So with that being said, as you read this I'm working on a master plan to one day have "Fuck You Money". If you've already seen the movie you know what I mean and if you haven't GO SEE IT!

Movie: TEACH Documentary | on CBS September 6th

This is a sponsored post.

How many inspiring teachers have you had in your life time? Like myself you probably can count them on one hand. Personally, I believe you have to have a true passion for something or at least a pre-planned mission to be successful at anything you do and this is very true for teachers. I grew up in one of the largest public school systems in America so I know first hand how important the job and impact of teachers is. The educational lessons taught by a good teacher may or may not seem as important or useful to you once you're an adult living in the "real world" (besides the basic skills: math, reading, writing) but a great teacher's impact on life is forever whether you realize it or not. Today I can only remember about three teachers when I was in school that left their mark on me and truly inspired me to do better and be better everyday (and still do), which is kind of sad when I think about it because inspiration for success should come from every teacher.

Movies: The Big Wedding

Butterflies!? Have you guys seen The Big Wedding yet? I didn't get to see it opening night like I hoped to but I made sure I went the following weekend and I'm glad I did, this movie was hilarious. This film was directed by Justin Zackham and stars Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Diane Keaton, Robin Williams, Christopher "Topher" Grace from That 70's Show (#random -we have the same birthday) and more. In summary without giving it away, Alejandro (Ben Barnes) is marrying Missy (Amanda Seyfried) and to impress his birth mother (Patricia Rae), his divorced adoptive parents (Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton) fake being married. It's still weird seeing young Eric of That 70's Show all grown up and acting in movies. Robin Williams on the other hand performed just as I expected since seeing his role in License to Wed were he played a marriage counselor who took counseling to the extreme. I have to admit I'm a huge fan of chick flicks or anything wedding related so that of course made this film even more enjoyable for me. This film provided non stop laughter with quite a few "oh wow" moments. Overall I thought it was great! Check out the trailer here!

Movies: Red Tails

Red Tails is an American war film about African American fighter pilots serving in the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) during World War II, known by many as the Tuskegee Airmen. Red Tails was directed by Anthony Hemingway and executive producer George Lucas. So many people doubted the success of Red Tails but according to media reports Red Tails brought in over $49,000,000.

I went to see Red Tails this weekend and I give it two thumbs up, it was a great movie! I am a lover of history in general and since this movie was released just in time for the start of the celebration of black history month it made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Movies: "For Colored Girls" - My Thoughts

Butterflies, as you know this weekend was somewhat of a national girls night out due to the release of the much anticipated "For Colored Girls". I celebrated girls night out with a few of my close girlfriends on yesterday and watched Tyler Perry's "For Colored Girls" and I must say I was blown away by the unique style of theatrical art that was displayed in this film. For the most part, the direction of the film was not that of what I thought it would be prior to seeing "For Colored Girls" but there were a couple of cliche/predictable moments. Although this film put a spotlight on the mountains of negativity women have to face everyday, I have to say...the positive energy and strong life messages that were disbursed in this piece of art were nothing more than PHENOMENAL!
