Did you know that a woman invented some of the auto features we use in our cars? It’s Women’s History Month and this year for International Women’s Day (March 8th) we are celebrating female inventors who helped advance travel, making it a little safer for everyone to get from point A to point B.

Like with most illnesses, the earlier you discover and treat it the better your chances are of survival. I have a strong family history of early age breast cancer and because of that I’ve been getting annual mammograms since I turned 30. Here are a few things I’ve learned from getting my annual Well Woman Exams:

The Music Walk of Fame recently honored the legacy of Amy Winehouse by dedicating a space on the Music Walk of Fame for the music icon in Camden.
There is also a life-sized bronze statue of Amy Winehouse in Camden’s Stables Market, not far from Amy’s old apartment. The statue was designed and created by artist Scott Eaton and features Amy’s signature beehive hairstyle.

The only knowledge I had about one of the world’s most influential women of all time when I was growing up is that she got married A LOT, that’s pretty much the only thing people cared about. I recently discovered some pretty cool new things that I never knew about her. Elizabeth Taylor was born in the UK and later moved to the US with her family. She started acting as a youth and later became a very respected businesswoman and humanitarian. She became royalty, made Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000. Elizabeth Taylor was born with distichiasis (double eyelashes) which gave her naturally fuller looking eyelashes and another genetic mutation that caused her dark blue eyes to appear violet at times. Elizabeth Taylor’s unique natural beauty was and still is admired by people all over the world. Her birthday is today February 27th, so in celebration of her I’m sharing some of my favorite Elizabeth Taylor quotes below:

Butterflies, if you’re in the Houston area you’ve probably heard about all the backlash Councilman and Mayoral candidate Dwight Boykins is receiving following a speech he gave at the 2019 Youth Advocacy Summit hosted by Mi Familia Vota Education Fund. My kid attended the summit and she, as well as a lot of the other young ladies that were present were very unsettled by Mr. Boykin's message. Apparently Mr. Boykins was asked a question by the young ladies about women’s rights and somewhere along the line his response to the question morphed into an entirely different discussion. My daughter showed me the video when she got home and we talked about it.

Hey Butterflies. If you're looking to add a little inspiration to your wardrobe, check out Cents of Style. Cents of Style is a online women's fashion shop with a specialty for inspirational graphic t-shirts. I ordered the You Can Do Hard Things graphic t-shirt because being totally honest, most of the times I don't think I can. This shirt will serve as my reminder every time I wear it that I CAN DO HARD THINGS. Every new year I make this huge list of things that I want to accomplish before the year is up and with the exception of my 2015 goals, most of the time none of it gets done. This year I made three simple/realistic goals for the sake of actually following through with them. Keeping myself motivated and focused plays a huge part in me accomplishing my goals so it's important to me that I'm continuously surrounded with inspiration and positive vibes, which is why I'm a fan of Cents of Style's inspirational fashions. Check it out...Get Inspired!

Butterflies, are you considering a big chop? Well join the club, Texas born and raised musical artist Beyoncé hair has been the the topic of discussion for many of her fans (and critics too) because she recently debuted a new hairstyle. There were a few pictures posted to her Instagram about two weeks ago that got everyone talking hair, it's like the biggest thing since the whole natural hair movement began (but not really lol). I did a big chop a few years ago prior to starting my natural hair journey and I loved how convenient my pixie cut was, it was actually easier to maintain than natural hair is contrary to what people believe.
Anyway, I guess everyone is so use to seeing Beyoncé with her long/curly hair that they're in shock she decided to change it up, the picture (below) is a photo of Beyoncé rocking a short "pixie cut". Just a few days ago more photos were posted to Bey's Instagram, this time of her rocking a "bob cut". I think they're both cute! Anyway, which would you rock?

Butterflies and fellow lambs, I've been a MC (Mariah Carey) fan since I could remember and this makes me like her even more. Apparently she was filming for a new video last week when she fell and injured her shoulder but a dislocated shoulder is no match for a Diva, the show must go on right? Rocking two very cute bedazzled and feathered arm slings, Mariah owned the stage at the MLB Sandy Relief Concert in New York. Check out the photos (courtesy of getty images) and video of her performance below.

Self Love: Learning To Let Go...My Thoughts
Labels:

Karrueche posted a photo of herself and Chris Brown on Instagram yesterday right before the BET Awards saying "My baby. Good luck today.", so I guess Karrueche and Chris are back on again? Let me start by making it undeniably clear that it honestly doesn’t matter to me who they choose to kick it with because I fully understand that possessing that kind of information will in no way change any aspect of my life and secondly I believe in the "live and let live" motto for life. The only reason this is even a topic of discussion is because I use to be a big CB fan so by habit I kind of but not really follow CB news.
Anyway, I can sincerely say as of this day that there is no guy in the world, celebrity crushes included that I would be going through the motions for like this. There's being young and in lust/love and then there's being in denial. I don't and can't keep up with the whole love triangle thing but I saw all the post about it and it made me think a few years back to when I was that age and didn't have a clue until I had my aha moment. Well actually I've had three major aha moments the first at the age of 18, the second at 22 and the other at the age of 25 and I remember them all like it was yesterday. I was just sitting and thinking about my past mistakes, my goals and pretty much life in general (yes I'm a thinker lol) and my thoughts started to run together or I got lost in them but then out of no where everything became clear. In that moment of self realization it became clear what I needed to change about myself, who I needed to cut tides with and what I needed to do to get to the next point in my life.
Speaking from my own personal experiences, letting go is one of the hardest things to do and everyone deals with it in their own way but you have to be ready to let go and when you're ready you'll know, it'll come naturally. It's like that old Fannie Lou Hamer saying, "All my life I've been sick and tired. Now I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired." When you reach the point of being truly tired of being mistreated you'll have a aha moment and learn quickly to let go of certain things and people for the sake of your own happiness.

This should come as no surprise since we all know that this Diva-MC and self proclaimed Queen Barbie is far from shy. I have to say I admire her courage though, I don't think I could ever bare it all for the world to see but kudos to her for being comfortable with her body. Rocking a very cute powdery pink lipstick, the beauty and musical mastermind posted the picture using the hastag #throwback. Any of you ladies bold enough to do the same?
