30 Days of Thanks: Functional Associations (Day 29)

Connecting with people (family/friends) is challenging and requires initiative and compromise. Oftentimes associations are broken because they aren’t functional due to one or both parties. Though they are few, I’m thankful for the functional relationships I’m apart of.

30 Days of Thanks: Taco Tuesday (Day 28)

Everyone has their go to comfort food right? Well, Mexican cuisine is mine and with that being said, today is taco Tuesday and after eating traditional Thanksgiving leftovers for almost a week, I’m thankful for these tacos from my neighborhood taqueria. Who invented tacos? What if they didn’t exist?

Fun Facts:
October 4th is national taco day.
October 21st is international day of the nacho.
November 6th is national nachos day.

30 Days of Thanks: Growth (Day 24)

I think growth is a very necessary and natural part of life. If you aren’t growing mentally, what are you doing exactly? I’m thankful for being able to want to do better and for being able to actually try to/do better.

30 Days of Thanks: Life Lessons (Day 22)

Whenever I think about life lessons lyrics from singer India.Arie’s “A Beautiful Day” song usually comes to mind. “Life is a journey not a destination. There are no mistakes, just chances we take.” Anyway, I’m thankful for the many life lessons I’ve learned over the years...good and bad.

30 Days of Thanks: Music (Day 19)

Simply put, I love music! I always have and I’m pretty sure I always will. I enjoy listening to different genres, from different decades and picking apart the lyrics. Music is kind of my life line; music has guided me through some of my toughest situations and for that I’m thankful.

Fellow music fanatics, what are some of your all time favorite songs/artists?

30 Days of Thanks: The Color Black (Day 18)

I’m truly thankful for the color black. It’s simple, attractive and drastically decreased my decision making time when color is involved. No guessing, I choose black.

30 Days of Thanks: Peace (Day 17)

Butterflies, it’s day 17 of my “30 Days of Thanks” short post series and today I’m thankful for inner peace. For as far back as I can remember I have suffered from extreme anxiety and it wasn’t until I decided to stop worrying about what people thought and the things that I couldn’t control, that I found peace. My advice to anyone dealing with conflict or distress is to immediately disengage from anything or anyone that is causing you stress. Life is truly too short and is meant to be enjoyed. Find your peace and don’t let anyone disrespect it.

Fun Fact: Want to know how to say peace in ten other languages?

30 Days of Thanks: Self-Love (Day 16)

You know the saying “ hurt people, hurt people”?...it’s true. You can’t truly love anyone else if you don’t love yourself. Being able to live our best life unapologetically  is one of, if not the greatest feeling we’ll ever know. For myself, my daughter, my sisters, my nieces and women everywhere...no one will ever love you the way you love you so it’s ok to fall truly, madly, and deeply in love with yourself. Taking care of you, flooding your mind with positive thoughts and your surroundings with positive energy, accepting your flaws and embracing your uniqueness is the key to self-love. No outside source needed. I’m thankful I found self-love.

Fun Fact:

National Self-Love Day is February 13th.

30 Days of Thanks: Goodness...Jar (Day 14)

In 2016 I started writing down good things that happened in my life so when I’m having a bad day I can remember the good and be thankful. I honestly don’t remember where I got the idea but I’m thankful for my jar of goodness.

30 Days of Thanks: I Was Brought Up In a Strict Home (Day 13)

Butterflies, I was born in the 80’s and raised in the 90’s; in my household we weren’t allowed to date, attending worship service was a must, there was zero tolerance for disrespect and corporal punishment was applied when you misbehaved. Parenting styles have definitely changed since I was a kid and although I hardly use any of the techniques my mom and dad used for parenting, I am forever thankful they raised us the way they did. My parents were strict but we were taught morals, respect, and discipline; which as a kid I didn’t agree with, understand nor did I appreciate, but now as an adult with a kid of my own I get it.

30 Days of Thanks: Sundays (Day 12)

Growing up, Sunday was dedicated to worship, big meals, chillaxing, and getting prepared for the next week; when I can, I do the same. Most of my best days have been spent in the comfort of my own home doing close to nothing. I usually do laundry, meal prep, write, and or just lounge around on Sunday. I enjoy having a day to just unwind and kick back, it’s also very good for my mental. Week after week, I spend the other six days stressed out and running all over the city so I’m sure you get just how thankful I am for Sunday. I’m curious, if Sunday isn’t your chill day, what day is?...and how do you spend it?

30 Days of Thanks: My Dad...The Veteran (Day 11)

Today is day eleven of my "30 Days of Thanks" short post series and it's also Veterans Day here in the US. More than anything else, today I’m truly thankful for the courageous men and women who have served in the military, putting their own life on the line to protect us.

This is one of my favorite photos of my dad, it’s not clear so once I find the original I’ll try to update it. Nonetheless, thanks Sgt. Gray for stepping up and protecting me and so many others.
