'00’s Music Spotlight: Charlene by Anthony Hamilton

So a lot of my core memories involve music in some way, which makes sense because I’m a music fanatic. Anyway I was listening to a 90’s R&B station the other day and this song came on and reminded me of a moment I shared with my partner and kid when she was just a few weeks old because this song was playing in the background that day and it’s one of my favorite songs. The song Charlene is one of Anthony Hamilton’s most popular tracks it was officially released in August of 2004 on his second studio album, “Comin' from Where I'm From”; checkout the video and my favorite lyrics from the track below:

Music: Best Babyface Songs + Collaborations of All Time

I heard an audio clip from one of the rock bands I listen to (I forgot which one) and they mentioned that Babyface helped with a few of their hit songs and I remember thinking that’s pretty cool considering Babyface’s primary genre is R&B/Soul. I also just recently discovered that he has written for Whitney Houston, P!nk, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, BeyoncĂ©, Aretha Franklin, Colbie Caillat and so many other popular musicians.

Music: The EMOtional Playlist

You’ve probably heard the term “emo” being used to describe someone who seems to dwell in angst; emo is short for the word emotional. Emo people, similar to Cancerians tend to be extremely emotional and introverted. The emo lifestyle became mainstream in the early 2000’s but has been around for way longer, it’s basically a goth subculture.

Feelings of anger, lost, regret, sadness, heartache and/or etc. can all be very difficult to get past and it oftentimes feels impossible in the moment, but with the right resources and self-motivation it definitely can be done.

Music: Top Aretha Franklin Songs

Butterflies, is it me or does my family have a thing for life story type movie/shows? I shared a similar story about a different music artist a few Thanksgivings ago and here we are again. After dinner (which was delicious af btw), we all kind of chilled out and watched a few movies and because I’m a music fanatic, the one that interest me the most was Respect, the recently released movie about the life of 60s singer and Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. Ms. Franklin was born on March 25th, 1942 (Aries) in Memphis, TN where she grew up with a heavy church influence. The film starred singer/actress Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans and Mary J. Blige.

Check out a few of my favorite Aretha Franklin tracks below:

Music: Best Lifehouse Songs

One of my favorite alternative rock bands, Lifehouse released their first studio album No Name Face in October of 2000 which featured one of my favorite songs of all time, Somewhere In Between. My favorite Lifehouse album however is definitely Smoke & Mirrors. The first Lifehouse song that made me notice them was Whatever It Takes from their fourth studio album title Who We Are. Lifehouse was scheduled to be on tour last year with the Goo Goo Dolls but the tour got postponed due to Covid. Anyway, since I didn’t celebrate their 20th anniversary last year with a “best of post” I decided to do it this year…check out all of my favorite Lifehouse Songs to date below:
