Around the World from Home: Celebrating Mardi Gras & Creole Culture in Texas

Celebrating Mardi Gras and the Creole/Cajun Culture is something I look forward to every year; the festivals, the food, the music and the atmosphere in general is why so many people are intrigued by the culture. In the Big Easy (New Orleans) Mardi Gras celebrations usually began in January and end in February or the first week in March depending on what date Shrove Tuesday falls on. Shrove Tuesday, also know as Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.

Hey Butterfly Mommies. It’s important we keep the kiddos minds and bodies active year round, even when they’re on break. My kid is extremely into science but she’s not quite ready for a physics tutor, so my mission currently is to find fun science related activities for her to engage in this summer so she’s having fun and learning at the same time. Since school is almost out for the summer, I thought I’d share a few fun and educational science, technology, engineering, math, and art summer camps that I’ve come across taking place in Texas.

Ironically, Mexico City is one of my travel goals…I’m looking forward to touring the tequila and Frida Kahlo museums while visiting. Until then, I’ll continue to enjoy my tequila drinks here in Texas.

Humanity: No Justice, No Peace! (Links)

This past week, people from all over the world joined in the seemingly never ending fight for equality; expressing their disgust with injustice and discontentment with oppression and YES, I am all the way here for it!! To speak honestly, the events of this past week seem somewhat surreal, like something you learn about from history books or stories told by elders, while naively never expecting to experience in your lifetime but as the saying goes, history has a tendency to repeat its self.

Everyone deserves the freedom to live their life in peace and in fairness; for as long as I live, I will always be on the side of the oppressed. So, what do we do now? The best and probably most vital thing we can do is get involved with the movement just as our ancestors did, which is critically necessary for the sake of the next generation. Below are a few links to information, interviews and resources shared across the internet this week related to the peoples demand for fair treatment and to end systematic racial discrimination:
