Travel: Horror Movie Road Trips

If you are a fan of cult classics and thrillers or horror movies are your thing…you’ll definitely enjoy this read. Firstly, if you haven’t checked out the Fear Street three part series on Netflix, please do…it’s frighteningly entertaining. Secondly, it’s Friday the 13th (the first one of this year) and I though it would be cool to share some of the creepiest places (in the states) worth a road trip to; a few are located here in Texas:

The Gas Station | Bastrop, Texas

Featured in the horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Gas Station features over night cabin rentals, a BBQ restaurant, and a horror movie themed gift shop. The Gas Station is hosting an annual Cult Classic Convention…March 2025.

Museum of The Weird | Austin, Texas

If you’re a fan of oddities or anything strange and unusual, you’ll really enjoy this museum that’s dedicated to just that. This museum features an array of sci-fi and horror film memorabilia. | Location: 412 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701

The Sawyer House | Kingsland, Texas

Also featured in the horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Sawyer House where the original movie was filmed is now Grand Central CafĂ©.

New Orleans Pharmacy Museum | New Orleans, Louisiana

An old timey pharmacy featuring voodoo potions and ancient remedies.

Salem Witch Museum | Salem, Massachusetts

Based solely on all the witchy movies I’ve seen, it seems that anyone who behaved a little strange back in the day were given the witch label. The Salem Witch Museum is dedicated to the history of the 1692 Salem witch trials.

Vent Haven Museum | Fort Mitchell, Kentucky

I think we’d all have to agree that some of the most frightening horror flicks involved creepy little dolls. The Puppet MasterChucky? Annabelle? Dolly Dearest? Vent Haven Museum is the only museum in the world dedicated to Ventriloquism.

Warren’s Occult Museum | Monroe, Connecticut

The museum is currently closed due to zoning issues but it is still located in the basement of the former home of Ed and Lorraine Warren who’s terrifying life’s work was portrayed in the Conjuring movies.

Fun Fact: Many believe that Friday the 13th got its unluckiness from the religious story The Last Supper and others believe it originated from the Greek God of mischief, Loki.
