Wellness: How Do You Train for Races?

Displaying Butterflies!

Today's topic is brought to you curtsy of my friends over at Fit Approach. So this year (in less than a month) I'll be turning thirty which for some reason is a big deal for me (I'm freaking out! lol) and I'm in "bucket list" over drive. I see all the cool looking themed races and think to myself; that has got to be some serious fun. Needless to say, being apart of a 5k is on my bucket list and I'M DOING IT THIS YEAR (<<<<< this is me speaking it into existence lol).

Anyway, for those of you who have participated in a 5k I'm in need of your advice...how do you train, mentally and physically, for races -- 5ks, 10ks, half & full marathons and what has been your past experience with races? What did you learn to do (and not to do) from your first time and how has your latest race experience evolved since then? I look for to your feedback!

Visiting Texas: 11Below Brewing Company + I Ate From a Food Truck for the First Time

Hey Butterflies! I spontaneously decided to go on an adventure after work today and ended up in northwest Houston, Texas at 11 Below Brewing Company. I was invited by a meetup group that I'm apart of which is a cool/casual way for me to experience so many different places that I probably wouldn't on my own and I had a great time. This brewery uses the chip/token system in which you pre-pay for your drinks.

Visiting Texas: Comicpalooza 2015 (Recap)

Greetings my Superhero Butterflies! Comic, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Anime fans were out in numbers for the annual Texas International Comic Convention known as Comicpalooza that took place this past weekend at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas and I have to start by saying, Comicpalooza 2015 was AWESOME!!!! This was my third consecutive year attending Comicpalooza and I'm super glad I did, I really had a blast all three days. I didn't capture anything as spectacular as last year's Star Wars Imperial March but none the less it was still pretty kick-ass.

Did you know there's a Comicpalooza App? I'm not sure if the Comicpalooza app was around last year but I discovered it this year, downloaded it and put that baby to use. The app really came in handy for planning my day at Comicpalozza on the go. I used the app to take note of all the cool exhibits, guest speakers, book signing, and photo opps I wanted to check out; I didn't do nearly as much stuff as I had hoped to. I really wanted to see Stan Lee, that didn't happen but there's always next time right?

Moving on, I sampled a new vodka while at the event; Virus Vodka. I thought the drink was ok from the small amount I sampled, it had a nice taste and texture. I'll have to look for it the next time I'm in the liquor store so I can really try it out and tell you guys what I think. I also found out while at Comicpalozza that there's a really cool superhero movie coming out next year, Superman vs. ...guess who? I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

There was so much to see and do, my kid had a blast. There was this guy in this Texan/Ironman kind of thing I thought was pretty cool and Lightsabers!? I considered getting one but my budget said no lol, maybe I'll pick one up next year or order one online from Amazon. Besides Lightsabers, I've been researching steel bone corsets for waist training purposes so seeing SteelBones.com at the event was a pretty neat coincidence and how cute was Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy? Fresh Prints, the printing company that printed the "my super power is blogging" shirt that I wore to Comicpalozza also had a booth at the event. Also saw the Mach 5 car from Speed Racer, bad-ass right!?

Althought I had the erge to blow my budget wide-open, I didn't. Instead, I only picked up a few small items like this nail art nailpolish from Nail Candy, a few random buttons (I was really geeked about my Dr. Who button), and because I have this thing for weird socks...I picked up a pair of socks from Femlin. Anyway, hope you enjoy the photos and see ya at next year's convention. Visit my Facebook page to view all photos from the 2015 Comicpalooza.

Visiting New York: THE RIDE New York City Tour Bus

THE RIDE uses New York City and its renowned landmarks as the backdrop for a theatrical event that blurs the boundary between tour and performance. The city becomes a stage, and soon you can't tell where the street ends and the show begins!

THE RIDE gives you a front-row seat to the streets of New York City in a multi-million dollar motor coach that comes equipped with state-of-the-art audio/visual technology, including 40 plasma screen TVs and over 3000 LED lights. Enjoy the performance from the comfort of one-of-a-kind stadium seating and huge panoramic windows.

While navigating a 4.2-mile midtown path, RIDE performers and native New Yorkers alike become performers for THE RIDE, showing guests an entirely new side of New York City they can't see anywhere else.

Whether you're new to the city or a long-time native, you'll find something to enjoy.
