30 Days of Thanks: Financial Literacy (Day 7)

Hey Butterflies! So I got a notification from one of my finance apps this morning, just checked it and found out my credit score increased by 10 points (after dropping 20 points in September). Yay! I started my financial journey at the end of 2014 after watching The Gambler, since then I have increased my score by over 100 points and I didn’t have to pay anyone to fix my credit. I did it all on my own; I did my research, made a plan and stuck to it. My ultimate financial goal is to be debt free and in the 800 club, I still have a little more work to do but until then I’m just thankful to have gotten this far on my financial journey.

30 Days of Thanks: Mental Stability & Letting Go (Day 6)

I feel like mental health isn’t talked about nearly as much as it should be. This is a topic we definitely have to stop treating as taboo. I was just thinking about what happened here in Texas yesterday and I really just don’t understand how people get to this point. I mean everyone gets fed up from time to time for sure, but how you handle your emotions when you get to this point is what needs to be discussed more often. On today, day six of my “30 Days of Thanks” short post series I’m thankful for my mental health. I’m a anti-social, introvert with anxiety and occasional depression issues, but I thank my parents, God and the Universe for equipping me with the strength to accept change and the wisdom to know when it’s time to let go. Two quotes that I always think about when I think about change and letting go is ”God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.”, written by theologian Reinhold Niebuhr and ”If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude.”, written by poet Maya Angelou.

30 Days of Thanks: Time (Day 5)

Butterflies! This whole time change thing has me legit ready for bed at 6pm. Lol, I usually go to bed early anyway when I don’t have plans but now it’s like my body senses the darkness; I can’t stop yawning. I’m more of a morning person and usually rely on my internal clock to wake me or tell me it’s time for bed so I’m guessing that’s why I’m super sleepy so early. In addition to being ready for bed earlier, it also sucks that it’s going to be dark before I make it home now but in the spirit of being positive for my "30 Days of Thanks", I do like that the sun is out earlier. I feel like I’m able to get up earlier during daylight savings and I wake up feeling rested so I guess it’s a good thing. Anyway, I tend to get so caught up in my daily things to do that I forget that we’re only given a certain amount of time to enjoy life...I always think about that when the time changes. I’m thankful for time; past, present, and future.

30 Days of Thanks: Self-Care (Day 4)

Butterflies, we’re four days into the “30 Days of Thanks” short post series and today I’m thankful for “me time”. Rhythm and blues singer Heather Headly could probably explain it better but in case you’re not sure what I’m referring to, me time is what ever amount of time you dedicate to taking care of your self or indulging in the things you like. I was once told by an ex-coworker some years ago that it’s impossible to take care of anyone else if you don’t take care of you; years later I fully understand the importance of her message. Being a wife/mom while working full-time and still trying to accomplish your life goals can definitely get overwhelming at times; taking care of your mind, body and soul is the key to being successful at what ever you’re trying to accomplish. To be honest I’ve been feeling really “blah” for the last few months, it’s been a tough task trying to get back to normal since the hurricane. Anyway, I enjoyed a few hours to my self at the spa today; I was able to momentarily clear my mind and just be in the moment. I’m thankful for that.
